Opening a personal trainer studio in Portugal
Do you know what licenses you need to open a personal trainer studio?
If you are thinking of opening a PT studio in Portugal, be aware that there is specific legislation for the area, and general legislation for shops and services. There are several steps to take to ensure your studio is legal and thus avoid any future unpleasantness regarding the required legalities.
If the space is larger than 150m2, accessibility must be ensured (toilet and shower for disabled people, access ramps, etc.).
In addition to this point related to the size of the space, the necessary legislation to open a PT studio is:
- Licensing of the sports facility (DL 141/2019, DL 110/2012 and DL 163/2006)
- Authorisation for use of sports facilities by means of a permit
- Prior communication to the Municipal Council
- Registration in CAE 93130
- Opening hours (displayed at the entrance and visible)
- Technical Responsibility (existence of a Technical Director with a professional title issued by the IPDJ)
- Internal Regulations displayed
- Preparation of the Manual of Operations for Sports Activities
- Insurance for users (Law 39/2012 and DL 10/2009)
- Professionals with a professional title of Physical Exercise Technician, issued by the IPDJ.
- No smoking sign
- Complaints Book (physical and online)
- SPAutores, PASSMUSICA and GEDIPE license, for musical and audiovisual rights.
- Inspection of gas networks and branches
- Display of prices.
- Air quality (ventilation, humidity and air conditioning (Ordinance 353-A/2013)
