The impact that the Pilates method can have on a person's quality of life is undeniable. There are several stories told behind Pilates, but the main thing to remember is that Joseph Pilates was always a fan of physical exercise, and used it to fight diseases, prevent injuries, train police and military personnel, and even dancers. He started by using exercises without any kind of equipment (Pilates Matwork), and later began to use beds, springs, mattresses, cables and pulleys to create machines and apparatus, and that is how Pilates with Machines was born.
The basis of Pilates is the human body in its total, i.e., healthy, function. The goal is muscle strengthening, increased joint range of motion, improved general and specific mobility, increased muscular and cardiovascular endurance, pain reduction, and postural re-education. Based on anatomical, physiological, medical, and sports knowledge, Pilates wins over its practitioners through its reliability and trustworthiness. It is so well recognized that even technicians and health professionals use it in rehabilitation and prevention therapies, both with Pilates apparatus and with various Pilates materials (balls, mats, rings, supports, etc.).
Doing Pilates with machines has immense advantages, and it differs from Pilates Matwork due to the use of machines, both for increasing external resistance and for assisting in flexibility movements. Ideally, we should use both in order to evolve in physical condition. The Pilates apparatus are: Reformer, Cadillac, and Ladder Barrel. The most commonly used materials in Pilates Matwork are: small balls, Swiss balls, mats, rings (magic ring), elastic bands, and supports.
